In CM Yogi Adityanath’s state, Uttar Pradesh, two minor girls in Gorakhpur were physically harassed by their family members for allegedly being friends with boys from their school. The two cousin sisters were repeatedly burnt with iron tongs and were also forced to eat human excreta by their kin who were upset with them for having an association with two boys. Post the incident, the two fled their homes. They were rescued from Nepal border.

While talking to the police and members of the Child Welfare Committee, who rescued both the girls from bordering Nepal, the girls narrated their ordeal and the entire event.

The cousins, who had received burn injuries told the Child Welfare Committee that they do not wish to go back home with this family members.

According to the Hindustan Times sources, the Gorakhpur Police had sent the girl’s family to Nepal to get their girls back. It was a call by a Nepali non-governmental organisation to Uttar Pradesh-based NGO Manav Seva Sansthan and timely action by the NGO that saved the girls from being handed over to the parents.

“The victims told us that they were burnt with tongs and force-fed human excreta, for which investigation is underway. One SI with a team of the NGO brought them back to Gorakhpur from Nepal,” Pipiganj’s station house officer Dinesh Mishra said.

As of now, the victims have been sent to a shelter home on the instructions of the committee till a further course of action, informed the police.

The Logical Indian take

The Logical Indian staunchly condemns such incidences and we would also urge the authority to take action against those who have done it. This is not the first time when parents have used violence against there children to object their association with opposite genders. It is sad that parents take such action to maintain their ‘pride’ and regressive costumes in the society.
