The idyllic honeymoon of Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam, a young couple from Indore, ended in tragedy and a shocking, allegedly orchestrated murder conspiracy. Raja Raghuvanshi was found dead in a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2, nearly ten days after the couple went missing.
His wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, has now surrendered to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after being on the run. Authorities allege she allegedly hired three hitmen to kill her husband.
The case, which allegedly spans multiple states and involves contract killing, has sparked widespread outrage and prompted a swift investigation by Meghalaya Police, who have arrested three suspects and are searching for a fourth.
Honeymoon Nightmare: Indore Bride’s Alleged Plot Unravels in Meghalaya, Culminates in UP Surrender
The story began with the young couple checking into a homestay in Nongriat, Meghalaya, on May 22, for what was meant to be a romantic getaway. However, the dream quickly turned into a nightmare when they disappeared the next day.
According to local sources, Raja and Sonam were last seen with three unidentified men, reportedly heading towards Mawlakhiat. Their rented scooter was later found abandoned in Sohrarim, raising immediate alarm. The discovery of Raja’s body on June 2 near Weisawdong Falls confirmed the worst fears. The body was recovered with a bloodstained machete and a raincoat. With Sonam missing, a massive search operation was launched.
Days later, she was located unconscious at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after allegedly calling her family for assistance. Following medical treatment, she surrendered to the police, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
Investigation Deepens: Alleged Love Triangle and Contract Killing Suspicions
Police investigations suggest a complex motive behind the murder, allegedly pointing to a love triangle. Authorities suspect that Sonam was allegedly involved with another man, Raj Kushwaha, and that she allegedly conspired with him to hire contract killers to eliminate her husband.
It is alleged that the hitmen, who are from Madhya Pradesh, were paid to join the couple in Meghalaya under the guise of a vacation, only to allegedly carry out the heinous crime.
Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang stated that the arrested individuals have provided crucial information allegedly implicating Sonam. Meanwhile, Raja’s family has expressed shock and disbelief, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
