Raushani Kumari, a 17-year-old from Hajipur, Bihar, has topped the Commerce stream in the Bihar Board Class 12 exams with an outstanding score of 95% (475/500). Born to an auto driver father, Sudhir Kumar, and homemaker mother, Aarti Devi, Raushani overcame financial challenges to achieve her dreams.

Her success highlights the remarkable performance of girls across all streams this year, with Priya Jaiswal topping Science and Ankita Kumari leading Arts. The overall pass percentage for 2025 stood at 86.5%, with Commerce students achieving the highest pass rate of 94.77%.

A Story of Resilience and Hard Work

Raushani’s journey is one of determination and grit. Growing up in a modest household, she faced numerous challenges that could have easily deterred her from her academic pursuits. To fund her education and coaching fees, Raushani took on a part-time job at a local computer coaching centre, working diligently for an hour each day to earn ₹500.

“Sometimes, I faced financial difficulties during my studies. When I told my coaching teacher I couldn’t afford the fees, he allowed me to work and earn to pay for them,” she shared with NDTV. This opportunity not only helped her financially but also instilled in her a sense of responsibility and work ethic that has shaped her character.

Her father, Sudhir Kumar, expressed immense pride in his daughter’s achievements. He revealed that despite their family often struggling to afford daily meals, they prioritized Raushani’s education above all else. “Even when Raushani was very young, her dedication to studies made it clear that she would achieve something big one day,” he remarked. With aspirations to pursue Chartered Accountancy (CA), Raushani embodies the spirit of perseverance and ambition that many young students aspire to emulate.

Girls Shine in Bihar Board Results

The Bihar Board Class 12 results for 2025 have showcased a remarkable trend: female students have outperformed their male counterparts across all streams. Priya Jaiswal from West Champaran topped the Science stream with an impressive score of 96.8%, while Ankita Kumari and Shakib Shah jointly led the Arts stream with scores of 94.6%.

Raushani’s achievement in Commerce not only highlights her individual talent but also reflects a broader societal shift towards empowering girls in education. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated all successful candidates during a press conference and emphasized the importance of female representation in educational achievements. He stated, “The success of our girls is a testament to their hard work and the changing mindset towards women’s education in our society.”

Community Support and Encouragement

Raushani’s success story resonates deeply within her community, where many families face similar financial constraints yet remain committed to educational excellence. Local educators and community leaders have rallied around students like Raushani, providing mentorship and resources to help them navigate their academic journeys. Schools have initiated various programmes aimed at supporting underprivileged students through scholarships and free coaching sessions, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their potential.

Moreover, community initiatives have fostered an environment where education is valued highly, encouraging parents to invest in their daughters’ futures despite economic hardships. This collective effort underscores the significance of community support in shaping the lives of young students and creating pathways for success.
