A sixth-semester student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences died in a tragic accident after being reportedly hit by Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy on Thursday. The accident took place near the Apollo point at Bharalumukh. The deceased, identified as Anupam Chakma, who hails from Tripura, was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) following the accident. GMCH referred him to Guwahati Neurological Research Centre Hospital (GNRC), where he was declared dead, reported Pratidin Time.

Locals alleged that it is common for VIP convoys to create traffic jam and accidents. Reportedly, Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen coming out of the vehicle to monitor the situation, Guwahati Plus reported.

Although Assam police have been unavailable for comments, the escort car with registration AS 01 HC 8600 has been seized, as reported by North East Now.
