A 40-year-old man, identified as Peter Gollapalli, allegedly died by suicide in Hubballi, Karnataka, on January 27, 2025. He left behind a note expressing despair and blaming his wife for his distress. The incident took place in Chamundeshwari Nagar on the day he was scheduled to attend a court hearing regarding their divorce. In his poignant note, he stated, “Daddy, I am sorry. Pinky is killing me. She wants my death,” raising grave concerns about domestic harassment and mental health issues within the community.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and the allegations made in the note.

A Troubled Marriage: Background of Domestic Conflict

Peter Gollapalli was reportedly employed at a private company but lost his job three months prior to his tragic passing. Family members allege that he had been subjected to ongoing harassment by his wife, Pinky, who is a private school teacher. According to relatives, she had recently become involved with another man and allegedly responded dismissively when questioned about her actions, asserting, “It’s my life, my wish.”

The couple had been married for two years but started living separately after just three months due to frequent quarrels. Pinky has filed for divorce and demanded Rs 20 lakh as alimony, further complicating their already strained relationship. His brother, Eshayya, expressed deep sorrow and anger over the situation, stating that they seek justice for Peter and that the alleged harassment should not go unpunished.

Investigation Underway: Authorities Respond

Following Peter’s death, local police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment to suicide) based on a complaint filed by Peter’s brother.

Investigators are delving into previous reports of domestic conflict between the couple, which may provide crucial context to this tragic event. Eshayya revealed that there had been prior incidents of violence involving Peter’s wife’s family members that were documented in police reports. He stated that Pinky’s elder brother had previously beaten Peter, indicating a history of abuse that may have contributed to the man’s mental state leading up to his death.
