The inaugural Junoon Awards in 2023 celebrated resilience during the pandemic, recognizing individuals and organizations with remarkable perseverance and innovation.

Amid the challenges of COVID-19, these changemakers adapted, found new ways to continue their work, and made a lasting impact. Their efforts stood as a testament to human strength and ingenuity, making the awards a tribute to determination and progress in the face of adversity. Building on the success of its inaugural edition, the Junoon Awards 2024 introduced a new theme: Empowering through Innovations. The spotlight was on organizations that reimagined development through bold, unconventional ideas. By challenging existing narratives and pushing the boundaries of traditional models, these changemakers showcased the power of creativity in driving meaningful impact. Among them was Tinka Samajik Sanstha, recognized for its groundbreaking efforts in redefining the norms of the development sector and inspiring change through innovation.

Founded in 2017, Tinka Samajik Sanstha has emerged as a beacon of hope and empowerment, harnessing the power of sports to address deeply entrenched social issues. With a mission to tackle gender inequality, child marriages, and violence against women, this organization provides free karate and self-defence training to over 76,264 children. Their approach goes beyond physical skills, nurturing confidence, mental health, resilience, and national and international sports participation opportunities. Operating through 53 training centers across Madhya Pradesh, Tinka’s impact extends to neighboring states like Maharashtra and Haryana, Chhattisgarh touching lives in rural, urban, and semi-urban areas and tribal communities. These centers are hubs of transformation, fostering a sense of community and creating safe spaces for young people to learn and grow. By integrating sports with education, Tinka addresses challenges faced by marginalized populations while bridging the gap between diverse demographics. At the heart of Tinka’s success lies a thoughtful and inclusive model. The journey begins with identifying villages and working closely with communities to ensure their active involvement. Through short stories and awareness sessions, Tinka reaches into the communities for Regular self-defence and karate training to empower youth while embedding values of gender equality. Tinka’s initiatives include gender equality workshops, sports events, and mental health support, creating a well-rounded developmental framework.

Tinka Samajik Sanstha’s unique innovation of aligning sports with pressing social challenges ensures that their efforts are impactful and sustainable. By pairing sports-based empowerment with personal storytelling and community engagement, Tinka addresses societal norms at their roots. Engaging entire families and communities through cultural and talent events fosters inclusivity and shared responsibility. Beyond sports, the organization emphasizes mental health awareness, leadership development, and constitutional education, equipping youth with tools for long-term success. Tinka’s dedication has transformed countless lives. The organization has empowered 50,597 girls and engaged 76,264 youth through 53 centers and over 200 summer schools. They have developed 295 national and 51 international players, many of whom have secured government jobs or become karate trainers, creating a ripple effect of empowerment. By promoting self-defence and economic independence, Tinka has significantly reduced tribal dropout rates and addressed gender-based violence.
Tinka’s model ensures long-term viability through strategic resource management. By utilizing government facilities, the organization eliminates infrastructure costs. Employing trainers from the community creates livelihood opportunities while fostering program ownership and community building. Tinka Samajik Sanstha exemplifies how a grassroots initiative can spark widespread change.
