In a novel initiative at Jodhpur Airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has begun leading short exercise sessions for passengers awaiting flights. Lasting 2–3 minutes, these sessions aim to promote wellness and alleviate discomfort during winter travel delays. The program, which has received positive feedback on social media, is expanding to other airports, including Srinagar and Udaipur. Officials report that the exercises help improve blood circulation and enhance the overall travel experience.

CISF’s Innovative Wellness Initiative

The CISF introduced this unique exercise program at Jodhpur Airport to encourage passengers to engage in light stretching before boarding their flights. The initiative, reportedly the first of its kind globally, has been well-received by travellers. A professor who participated shared his experience on social media, stating, “I was skeptical but liked that it was pure stretching with no unnecessary bakwas!” The exercises include side stretches and calf muscle stretches, designed to counteract the stiffness often experienced during long waits. The sessions are strategically timed to fit into the passengers’ schedules without causing delays.

Positive Passenger Reactions

Feedback from passengers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the initiative. One frequent flyer remarked, “It’s a refreshing change to see security personnel engaging with us in such a positive manner. It makes waiting for flights less tedious.” Other travellers noted that these brief sessions not only helped them feel more relaxed but also provided an opportunity to connect with fellow passengers in a light-hearted environment. The CISF aims to create a more pleasant atmosphere at airports, making travel less stressful.

Background and Expansion of the Program

Initially trialed at Jodhpur Airport on January 5, 2025, this initiative has quickly expanded to several other airports such as Srinagar, Dehradun, Udaipur, Gwalior, and Bhuntar. CISF personnel have been trained to guide passengers through six simple stretching exercises tailored for winter months when flight delays are more common. An officer noted the overwhelming positive response from passengers, highlighting the importance of such activities in improving blood circulation during extended sitting periods. The CISF plans to monitor the program’s impact on passenger satisfaction and may consider further enhancements based on feedback.

Health Benefits of Stretching During Travel

The importance of physical activity during travel cannot be overstated. Long periods of sitting can lead to discomfort and health issues such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Experts recommend regular stretching to improve circulation and reduce muscle tension. By incorporating these brief exercise sessions into airport routines, the CISF is not only promoting physical health but also encouraging a culture of wellness among travellers. This initiative aligns with broader public health goals aimed at reducing sedentary behaviour in everyday life.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This innovative approach by CISF reflects a commitment to enhancing passenger well-being and promoting healthier travel experiences. Encouraging physical activity in public spaces fosters a sense of community and well-being among travellers. As we navigate the challenges of modern travel, initiatives like these remind us of the importance of self-care and wellness. They also highlight how security personnel can play a positive role beyond their traditional duties.
