Candlelight marches were held nationwide today for Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, who died by suicide on December 9, allegedly due to harassment from his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family. Subhash left a 24-page note detailing his distress and accusing a judge of complicity.

An FIR has been filed against Nikita and her relatives for abetment of suicide. The case has sparked outrage and discussions about mental health and domestic abuse across social media platforms.

Details of the Case

Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old software engineer, was found dead in his Bengaluru apartment. His suicide note accused his wife and her family of extortion, demanding significant sums for legal settlements.

His brother, Bikas Kumar, expressed deep concern for Atul’s struggles, stating, “He fought against a corrupt system,” and called for accountability from those in power. Eyewitness accounts suggest that during court proceedings, Atul faced derisive remarks from a judge, which he cited as emotionally damaging.

Background of Allegations

The couple’s tumultuous relationship began shortly after their marriage in 2019, with allegations of dowry demands from Atul’s family contributing to significant familial strife. In contrast, Atul’s family claims they were victims of false accusations and emotional abuse.

The ongoing legal battles reportedly led to Atul’s severe emotional distress, prompting him to document his struggles in both a video and the suicide note. A police team is currently investigating the allegations against Nikita and her family members.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for reform in how domestic disputes are managed within our legal system. It is essential to create an environment where all individuals can seek justice without fear of harassment or bias.
