A 12-year-old boy named Prince tragically died at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, on December 3, 2024, following a scuffle with a classmate. While police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, the family alleges foul play and negligence. A classmate has been arrested under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The incident has sparked protests as the family demands accountability from school authorities.

Details of the Incident

Prince was reportedly involved in a physical altercation during a morning assembly at Chinmaya Vidyalaya. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing him being pushed and allegedly strangled by another student after a minor confrontation. Witnesses noted that Prince collapsed shortly after the fight and was taken to Holy Angels Hospital before being referred to Fortis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His father, Sagar, expressed disbelief over the incident, stating, “He was fine when I dropped him off. He was an active child… loved playing football.” Sagar also revealed that he was informed of his son’s condition only after arriving at the hospital, where he was shown Prince’s lifeless body.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the incident, police apprehended a 12-year-old classmate for his role in the altercation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Choudhary confirmed that evidence from CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation. “We are investigating all angles,” said Choudhary. “The autopsy report will help us determine the exact cause of death.” Initial examinations indicated that foam was found around Prince’s mouth, which may suggest a medical emergency occurred during or after the scuffle.

Community Response and Protests

The tragic death of Prince has led to significant community outrage, with protests erupting outside Chinmaya Vidyalaya as hundreds gathered to demand justice for the young boy. Family members have accused school officials of failing to act promptly and adequately inform them about the incident. “They told us he had fainted,” Sagar lamented. “We were not prepared for what we found at the hospital.” Local residents joined the family’s call for accountability, expressing concerns over safety measures in schools and how conflicts among students are managed.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This heartbreaking incident highlights critical issues surrounding student safety and institutional accountability within educational environments. It raises essential questions about how schools handle conflicts among students and their responsibilities in emergencies. As communities reflect on this tragedy, it is vital to advocate for improved safety protocols and support systems in schools. How can we collectively ensure that our children are protected in educational settings? Engaging in constructive dialogue can help foster safer environments for all students.
