On April 25, Thursday, two Maoists, identified as 30-year-old Deepak alias Mangru Suklu Begami and 28-year-old Moti alias Radha Jhuru, surrendered to Gadchiroli police in Maharashtra. The two, who are married to each other, were on the most wanted lists of the Maharashtra, Telangana and Chhattisgarh police.

Deepak and Moti, most wanted Maoist cadres

The reason why the dreaded Maoist cadres surrendered was that the senior Maoist cadres were sexually exploiting women. Another factor, apart from the abuse of girls, that disturbed the couple was the Maoists resisting development work in remote areas. Further, they were miffed by the Maoists separating couples and posting them at different locations in order to punish them.

In 2001, Deepak became a Maoist in the Jagargunda Dalam. But since 2012, he has been the divisional commander of the dalam in Company 5. Being on the most wanted list three mine blast cases, 12 murders and 17 encounters, a reward of Rs 9.25 lakh was declared by the Maharashtra government for his capture, reported India Today

After becoming a Maoist in the Bhamragad Dalam in 2004, Moti was promoted to divisional commander of the North Bastar Company 10 in 2017. A reward of Rs 9.25 lakh was declared by the Maharashtra government for Moti’s capture as well. Moti was wanted for two murders and 15 encounters with security forces.

The couple, who wished to lead a normal life as husband and wife, said that there were instances where Maoists abducted minor girls and forced them to join the movement. According to a policy laid down by the Maharashtra government, disillusioned with the way the Maoists function, the two of them decided to surrender and put down their arms.

In January this year, seven Maoists had surrendered in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. A total cash reward of Rs. 31.50 lakh was on the heads of these Maoists. The group who surrendered had both men and women members.
