Cyclone Fani hit Odisha last week and left the state totally devastated with lakhs of people suffering the consequences from the damage caused by it. As the locals are trying their best to get back to a state of normalcy, a UK-based non-profit aid and relief organization, Khalsa Aid has reached the state to help the victims and serve them with hot meals.
From serving the people affected by Kerala floods to helping Syrian refugees, this international NGO has always come forward time and again to help out those in need. And now the Khalsa Aid team has reached Odisha to extend their services to the cyclone-affected residents. The volunteers of the NGO are carrying out an assessment to help the people affected by the cyclone, setting up relief operations and are serving hot meals to the victims of the cyclone.
According to Odisha TV, the volunteers of Khalsa Aid are serving Langar twice a day – lunch and dinner, to the victims of the cyclone in Bhubaneswar since May 4, with the help of Gurudwara Singh Sabha.
Puri, the temple town of the state is the worst affected region from the cyclone Fani, where people are constantly struggling from lack of power supply and food and drinking water, there the Khalsa Aid team is serving food and drinking water to more than 5000 people every day with the help of district administration.
While talking to News 18, Amarpreet Singh, the Director of Khalsa Aid India says, “The founding principle of the Khalsa Aid is, “Recognise the whole human race as one. Going by our principle, we are motivated to work in disaster areas irrespective of faith, religion, colour, caste or creed. To see helpless cyclone victims value even a single drop of water, a handful of rice with hope in their eyes and smile on their faces is our biggest motivation.”
Amarpreet Singh also shared some pictures on Twitter of the relief camps organized by the organization in the state.
Amarpreet Singh also told that they have set up their base 60-70 km away from Puri, from where they prepare the meals and take them in mobile kitchens which then travel to different villages and distribute the food.
Because of the non-availability of drinking water in the state, the team also purchased 50,000 litres of water from Kolkata to help the victims.
These efforts of the Khalsa Aid team have earned them great appreciation as people lauded their efforts on social media.
