Not Happy With Her Friendship With A Local Youth, Mother Allegedly Kills Daughter

Even in the 21st century, being friends with someone from the opposite sex can be a cardinal sin. While economic and technological progress is reaching every corner of India, societal development has somewhere stopped. A case of the killing of a 20-yr-old girl from Uttar Pradesh has surfaced.

On May 11, a 20-year-old girl was allegedly killed by family members for continuing being friendship with local youth, reported The Indian Express, The girl hailed from a village in Sant Kabir Nagar district. Police have arrested the girl’s mother (48), her two brothers (27 and 17), uncle, along with the village head in connection to the murder. The cops are still looking for three more people, who are suspected of helping in disposing of the body.

As of now, those arrested have been sent to judicial custody.

The incident happened on May 11, when a quarrel broke out between the family members and the girl over not ending her friendship with the local youth. In a fit of rage, the mother hit on the girl’s head with a stick, causing her death. Police was apprised about the incident on May 14, when a person from the neighbouring village noticed a cloth piece hidden behind a bush, almost 10 Km away from the victim’s village. Later, the cops rushed to the spot and found the woman’s body.

The resident who spotted the body told the cops that a few days back, he had noticed a few villagers from the neighbouring village around the spot. Later, when the police went to the victim’s village. On questioning the neighbours, they were told that the girl had committed suicide after consuming the poisonous substance. However, in the post-mortem report, the injury on her head inflicted with a blunt object was mentioned to be the reason for her death.

The investigative officer of the case said that after grilling the mother at a long stretch, she confessed her crime. She told the cops that the family had from the very beginning opposed the girl’s and the local youth’s friendship. She said that on May 11, the girl was on a call with the guy, despite being warned multiple times. Seeing this, the mother hit the girl on her head, rendering her unconscious.

After the girl regained consciousness, she started to vomit. Fearing the condition, the family informed the village head that the girl had consumed the poisonous substance. On the same night, the girl died, and the village head along with girl’s minor brother carried her on a bike to the neighbouring village. Mother, elder brother, and uncle were also on the spot to help bury her.
