Three minors raped a minor girl in Alwar on May 14, following which the survivor’s family lynched one of the accused. The 15-year-old girl, who had gone to attend a relative’s marriage in Alwar, Rajasthan was allegedly gang-raped by three minors.
What had happened?
“While one of the accused managed to flee, the other two were caught by the victims’ family members and thrashed the next morning… Few hours later, one of them was found dead on the roadside,” Firstpost quoted SP Anil Paris Deshmukh as saying.
The perpetrators have been identified as Lokesh, a resident of Bagheri Khurd, Ramvir, a resident of Dev Haran and Rahul, the one who was lynched.
Separate FIRs have been filed by the family of the deceased and that of the survivor. While the survivor’s mother filed an FIR against the three accused, the deceased’s family members registered a case of murder against the survivor’s brother and others.
According to Investigating Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Behror) Ramjilal, both the perpetrators of alleged rape were detained and were sent to a juvenile home by a court till May 29.
Politicisation
This incident comes days after a group of five men allegedly thrashed and gang-raped a woman in front of her husband near Thanagazi in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.
Cases of rape are on the rise in Rajasthan. Last week, an eight-year-old girl was raped in Dholpur and a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative in Churu.
Although women and girls in Rajasthan are leading an unsafe life, political parties have not ceased to play the blame game. This time, the BJP has targeted Congress for the condition of women in the state.
“The situation has become alarming in Rajasthan where crimes against women are surfacing daily. The government is totally insensitive and women are feeling insecure in the Congress rule,” BJP state president Madan Lal Saini said.
The Logical Indian take
This incident is harrowing and condemnable from various angles. Rape in itself is a brutal crime, and the fact that the rapists, in this case, were all minors is shocking, to say the least.
Further, no matter what crime a person commits, mob lynching can never be an option to teach them a lesson. By lynching the accused to death, the survivor’s family committed a crime no less disturbing than what the accused did.
These incidents of rape taking a political turn is yet another problem. For politicians, people we choose to run our country, the blame game is more important than ensuring that the survivor gets justice, or that women feel safe in the state in the near future.
The Logical Indian condemns these crimes and urges authorities to take strict action against all the accused.
