Days after a video of Uttarakhand MLA Pranav Singh Champion brandishing guns and dancing at a house party became viral on social media, BJP on Wednesday (July 17) expelled him from the party for six years.

Champion Suspended

After the video appeared, he was issued a show-cause notice by the state leaders.

“The party sought an explanation from him about the video where he is seen abusing and indulging in wrongful acts. Since his reply was not satisfactory as per our disciplinary committee, he has been expelled from the party for six years,” News18 quoted BJP media head and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni.

Champion was already under suspension for three months and a notice to extend the period was issued by the state BJP general secretary Anil Goyal on being directed by party president Ajay Bhatt.

The Video

In the video, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion can be seen dancing with pistols and an automatic rifle, while hurling abuses and cursing the state of Uttarakhand.

Champion was suspended by the BJP for three months for threatening a reporter. After the latest video surfaced, the Uttarakhand unit of BJP wrote to the central leadership, recommending a six years’ permanent suspension for him.

Terming it as a conspiracy, Champion had said the weapons were licensed and not loaded.

Pradesh BJP president Ajay Bhatt and Shyam Jaju, the in-charge of the party affairs in Uttarakhand, had reacted sharply to his conduct and said that indiscipline could not be tolerated.

“The BJP is a party which does not compromise on principles. Indiscipline by anyone cannot be tolerated,” Bhatt had said.

No stranger to controversies, Champion was in the news some months ago as he publicly indulged in a war of words with Jhabrera BJP MLA Deshraj Karnawal and challenged him to a wrestling bout.
