In a moving instance of communal harmony, the Hindu residents of Mari village in Nalanda district in Bihar, have put in all their effort to look after a mosque.

The Muslims in the village left due to unemployment, leaving the mosque at the hands of village Hindus. They not only came forward to help maintain the mosque but also upheld the sanctity of the religious structure.

The locals here are putting in their effort to look after the mosque with as much heart and soul as the people who had left it behind had done. They ensure that the walls are painted, they mop and sweep the premises of the mosque and do not forget to play azaan at the right hour, Indiatimes reported.

Despite not knowing the namaz routine, these residents use a pen drive which guides them through the whole process. In this way, they gather in the mosque to pray together, just like their Muslim brothers.

Ramveer Kashyap from Nanheda village in Muzaffarnagar has taken up the sole responsibility of taking care of the century-old mosque in his village, which he saved from demolition in 2013 by putting up a staunch stand against a group of fanatic rioters. 

Even after seventy years after partition, the mosque in Ludhiana’s Hedon Bet stands tall and strong. The Muslims in the village left during partition. Since then the 1920 mosque is maintained and protected by the Sikhs of the village. According to the villagers, as many as 50 Muslim families lived in the village. However, they left for Pakistan during the Partition in 1947. 

While incidents of communal violence and intolerance have disturbed us on many occasions, instances like these restore our faith in humanity.
