A woman from Assam was allegedly beaten up and stripped, in the lockup of a police station in Gurugram, Haryana, police said on September 4, Wednesday.
The Gurgaon police commissioner ordered an inquiry into the matter and sent four personnel, including the DLF Phase 1 Station House Officer, to the police lines.
What Happened?
The 30-year-old woman from Assam worked as a domestic help in Gurugram in a bungalow in the upscale DLF Phase 1 area. She was taken to the police station after being accused of theft by her employers.
“The investigating officer, (ASI) Madhubala, called her to the police station. When she reached the police station, she was taken to a room, stripped and beaten-up brutally with belts and batons. They forced her to confess to a crime that she did not commit,” India Today quoted the woman’s husband as saying.
Allegedly, she was even beaten by the police in her private parts.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil was prompted to order a departmental enquiry against the four accused policemen and sent them to the police lines after a group of people from the north-east staged a protest outside.
“We received a complaint against the police personnel of DLF Phase 1 and accordingly, sent them to the lines. The accused officers are SHO Sawit Kumar, ASI Madhubala, HC Anil Kumar and woman constable Kavita,” Subhash Bokan, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gurgaon Police, said.
The allegation levelled against the policemen will be looked into by the new SHO.
