Fact Check: Screen Grab Of Movie Shared As Image Of 26/11 Martyred Cop Tukaram Omble

A movie still from ‘The Attacks of 26/11’ showing an actor who played the character of martyred police personnel Tukaram Omble is being shared on social media as an actual photo from the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai.

On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of horrifying 26/11 Mumbai attack, people on their social media sites are paying respect to a braveheart of Mumbai police, Tukaram Omble for his supreme sacrifice. 

This assistant sub-inspector in the Mumbai Police was an important man  who helped capture Ajmal Kasab alive during the attack. Kasab was the only terrorist who was arrested alive in the infamous 2008 Mumbai attacks. During his encounter with Kasab, Omble was shot with 40 bullets until other policemen came to his rescue and overpowered the latter.

Omble unfortunately did not survive very long after the attack.

Various political leaders including Bharatiya Janata Party MP Shobha Karandlaje paid tribute to the late Omble using the still from the Ram Gopal Varma film. “Let’s take a moment to remember the hero of 26/11! He took over 40 rounds from the AK47 of Ajmal Kasab but captured him alive. We salute you, Sri Tukaram Omble Ji! #MumbaiTerrorAttack,”  Shobha Karandlaje a BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh tweeted, sharing the fake image.


The very same screen grab was also twitted by Mr Amitabh Bachchan.

The photo from the movie still of ‘The Attacks of 26/11’ is considered to be true. 


Fact Check

After a google reverse search, we get to know that the image on the right side is of Tukaram Omble. The same image of Tukaram Omble is an old Indian Express photo. However, the image on the left is taken from a movie called ‘The Attacks of 26/11’ based on the Mumbai attack in 2008. 

This particular film was released in 2013. One can find the clip of the film on YouTube as well, which clarified that the photo is taken from the movie.
