‘Poshan On Wheels’: Chandigarh Launches Mobile Anganwadi Vans To Feed Kids Of Construction Workers

Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh union territory, V P Singh Badnore, launched two mobile Anganwadi Vans on Thursday, November 28, for serving nutritious food to the children of construction workers.

The initiative was launched to reach out to the children of construction workers who are often left out of developmental initiatives and to provide the benefits of (Integrated Child Development Services(ICDS) schemes. The vans called ‘Poshan On Wheels’ aim to cover the uncovered marginalised population on the construction sites as their work is migrant in nature.

“Flagged off Mobile Anganwadi Vans under Poshan Abhiyan, carrying nutritious food for the infants, expectant and lactating mothers especially at the construction sites,” the Administrator tweeted on Thursday.

Manoj Parida, Advisor, B.L Sharma, Secretary Social Welfare and Director Social Welfare, Navjot Kaur and other officials of UT Chandigarh were also present at the event initiated by the Department of Social Welfare.

The total beneficiaries of the initiative are expected to be around 415, including children in the age group of six months-six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls.

The vans will cover the construction sites of Colony No. 4 (EWS Houses), Sanjay Colony Industrial Areas, Construction Site of PGI, Police Flats in Dhanas and Construction area near Secretariat, Sector-9 Chandigarh.

The Administrator flagged of the vans from Raj Bhawan, Sector 6 Chandigarh. He also examined the food that will be served to the children. Previously, there was one van that served food to the children of construction area near PGIMER. With the addition of the two vans, areas which were left out can also be covered.
