A class four Dalit girl’s face in Hisar, Haryana was allegedly blackened with a sketch pen by a teacher for not scoring minimum marks of eight out of ten in a class test.

The girl was paraded in front of her classmates while they were told to shout “shame shame”  for not securing the expected marks.

The girl’s family staged a protest in front of the school and demanded justice. The Hisar Police have registered an FIR on her parents’ complaint under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act and Juvenile Justice Act.

“My daughter got less number in a test held on December 6. A female teacher painted my girl’s face with black colour. She was made to go around the school and was embarrassed. I demand the administration to close the school. She is in Class IV, and even if she did not know the answer to the question, they should not have done that,” the girl’s father told ANI.

Her father, who is a labourer, called for strict action from the police by collecting the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the entire school.

Bahujan Samaj Party leader Bajrang Indal led a protest to seek justice to the girl. Responding to the incident, he said, “The treatment meted out to a Dalit student in a private school by a teacher was shocking,” to The Hindu.

Meanwhile, a class VI student of the same school alleged that it is the teacher had smeared the faces of more girls before this incident came to light.

The activists are calling for a firm stance from the authorities and the government.
