With the Madhya Pradesh elections knocking at the door, the Bharatiya Janata Party got caught up in a controversy. A video went viral on social media a couple of days back that posed grave questions to the BJP MLA Mamta Meena. Although the authenticity of the video is not verified, the video showed a woman beating up another woman and two other men mercilessly.

Former Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh tweeted the video and asked “Kya Kisi bhi Jan pratinidhi ka yeh aacharan hona chahiye?” It was later found that the video is from Guna district, Chachoda which shows a Dalit family allegedly being beaten up by Mamta Meena. In the video, it can be seen that a woman, whose face has been covered with her saree, kicking a woman and asking her how dare she go against the authorities. Two men can be seen beating two other men. She then goes on to thrash the two men with a shoe.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, the Dalit people were beaten up because they went against the BJP’s MLA. However, this video has not been proven yet.

When Mamta Meena was asked about the viral video, she denied being in the video as her face cannot be seen and said that it’s a fake video and audio. She lashed out at Digvijay Singh and said that he should stop targeting and stop being scared of her as elections are closer and asked him not to ‘bark’.

The Logical Indian take

A crime is committed against Dalit every 15 minutes in India. There has been a lot of cases of Dalit atrocity in the past. For long, Dalits have been the victims of political competition, tensions. In cases like land encroachment in Bhopal district, Dalits were burnt alive on 22nd June 2017. If we talk about major cases that happened in Sharanpur district in 2016, a Dalit man was killed and 25 Dalit houses were burnt. It was yet another incident that was connected with BJP MP from Shahranpur Raghav Lakhanpa.

Six Dalit women are raped every day, according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data of 2015. Even in this 21st century, all we have done for Dalits is changing their identities to Scheduled Caste. The Logical Indian hopes victimisation of Dalit people for benefits of political parties should stop and strict action should be taken against violence towards Dalits.
