Transgenders who face discrimination and rarely get employed even if they are qualified enough are soon going to be entrepreneurs in the God’s own country Kerala.
G-Taxi is a cab service being launched in Kerala that will be owned and operated by transgenders, a first in the state. Gender Taxi, envisaged as ‘equality taxi’, can be availed by all travellers, irrespective of their gender.
The business model of G-Taxi is being prepared and if everything goes right, then the G-Taxi will be on the ground in the month of March. State Minister of Social Justice M K Muneer hopes that this will help transgenders in a big way and also hopes that they will try to learn from the ‘She-Taxi’, which was launched for the women commuters. This project comes under “Transgender policy” which was launched in November to improve the life and living conditions of the TG community.
Kerala is leading the nation when it comes to social progress, few of the initiatives by Kerala government which other states can follow:
■ First State To Have Transgender Policy
■ First State To Set Up A Justice Board For Welfare Of Transgenders
■ The First State In India To Achieve 100% Primary Education
■ The highest daily wage earners in non-public, urban jobs are women.
■ The life expectancy is the highest.
Kerala has more than 25,000 transgenders.
The Logical Indian believes that this move will not only provide livelihood to transgenders but also streamline the sexual minorities in the society. The best way to bring transgenders to mainstream society and remove stigma is to empower them and Kerala is leading the nation when it comes to social inclusiveness.
