This one’s for all the social media haters. You may hate it, but in this day and age, it is a tool we cannot live without. In just two hours or so Delhi Police helped reunite an 80-year-old lady with her family, thanks to Twitter.
After Kamla Gupta, a resident of Patel Nagar visited a temple this morning, she couldn’t find her way back home. An Alzheimer’s patient, she was found wandering by a patrolling police van, and taken to Ashok Vihar police station. Finding themselves in a fix because she couldn’t remember her address, the police did what most of us usually do. Ask strangers on the web for help, and it worked like a charm. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madhur Verma tweeted a picture of Kamla with information on where to find her.
And 1.5k retweets later, it was businessman Vishal Kumar who helped track the family down. After Vishal had shared Mrs Gupta’s details on Facebook, her family came forward and contacted Vishal, who then quickly put them in touch with DCP Verma.
Posting an image of the reunited Gupta family, Verma spoke about the power of social media and also asked her family to be more vigilant.
So while Mumbai Police’s witticisms were giving everybody social media goals, Delhi Police decided to go ahead and outdo them with some work.
