Investors lose Rs. 3 lakh cr after stock market biggest fall: Sensex plunged by 807.07 points on Thursday, its biggest fall in six months, to settle below 23,000-level after 21 months as fears of a global slowdown and disappointing quarterly numbers combined to batter investor sentiment.


Raghuram Rajan says will not let system fail, but clean-up must continue: Rajan, who has set a deadline of March 2017 for the banks to clean up their balance sheets resulting into huge losses being booked by many lenders and sharp profit plunges by others, also asserted that the government and the regulator would not let the system fail.He also said there is no question of going back on the clean-up drive even as he assured full support to all banks including those with problems on their balance sheets.


All party meet: Prime Minister called for an all-party meet today ahead of the budget session. It comes at a time when the Budget session, scheduled to commence on February 23, already looks headed for a washout. Opposition parties sought clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the escalating row over the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issue during the meet.

National Framework for Malaria Elimination 2016-2030 released: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has released the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) 2016-2030 at New Delhi. The framework aims to eliminate mosquito-borne malaria disease from the country by 2030. This is for the first time government’s health policy has framed intervention have deliverables and time-bound targets.


Syrian civilians killed by ‘deliberate’ strikes on hospitals, schools: UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon says almost 50 civilians including children have been killed and many more wounded in missile attacks on at least five medical facilities and two schools in northern Syria, as Russian-backed government troops intensified their push toward the rebel stronghold of Aleppo.


U.S., Russia and other powers agree on ‘cessation of hostilities’ in Syria: The United States, Russia and other powers agreed to a “cessation of hostilities” in Syria’s civil war, to take place within the next week, and immediate humanitarian access to besieged areas, Secretary of State John F. Kerry announced here early Friday.
