Meet K. Darshini, the six-year-old girl from Coimbatore, whose news is getting viral on the internet. The reason she is in the news is because of her incredible feat of speed skating 10.5 kilometres in just 41.03 minutes in the Under 7 category of the Quarter Skating Marathon.
Her achievement has managed to get her into the India Book of Records, as well as the Asia Book of Records. She has participated in several district, state and national level tournaments before. But this achievement has set a national benchmark. In the event, to finish the distance of 10.5km in 45 minutes, but she took 41.03 minutes to complete the distance.
Darshini had developed a craze for skating when she was just five. The important part is that her parents lend her constant support and had arranged a coach for her. It puts to perspective the importance of support of parents for children to unleash their potential. Darshini proves, when you pursue your passion, there is nothing which could come between you and your destiny.
Indian’s do have penchant for records. According to one statistic, every 10th world record belongs to an Indian. India book of records is a collection of national records in the field which mostly is not included in an organized sport. India book of records was started in 2004 by Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury who is also a Guinness world record holder. While Asia book of records is a register of human achievement and natural events for individual and institutions based in the Asian countries.
