In a shocking incident of police brutality, a 17-year-old-boy from Chennai was allegedly assaulted by policemen, on March 12, after he was mistaken for a cell-phone thief. A group of men  came to the house of Vincent (father of victim), a resident of Kannagi Nagar and dragged his son out of the house. He was then blindfolded and taken on a jeep to a place near Velachery Railway Station.

The 17-year-old returned home on Saturday night with severe injuries on his lips and torso. His injuries were so severe that he was unable to speak or eat. According to his father’s narration of the incident, the policemen realised that they had picked up the wrong person after he was brutally thrashed and hence they dropped his son near Thoraipakkam and handed him  Rs 10 to meet some basic expense. His sufferings did not end there, his son suffered an epileptic attack after he came home and was rushed to a hospital. The family since then have sought recourse by approaching the State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday. A petition has also been submitted to the State commission for Child Rights and National commission for Child Rights by League for Child Rights Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.

The Logical Indian vehemently condemns the high handedness of the police. The utter apathy to rights of citizens is frightening to say the least. We request the government to identify those policemen involved in this case and take appropriate action immediately.
