Remember that time when you decided not to carry your water bottle and buy packaged drinking water instead? Recent studies suggest you might not have done the wisest thing.
According to a research conducted by scientists in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, consumption of packaged drinking water may expose your body to an onslaught of harmful chemicals. Shockingly, samples of bottled water from several companies contained 27% Bromate, whereas the safe limit lies around 10% only. This means regular consumption of bottled water could potentially expose you to cancer, stomach infection and hair fall.
At present, India has no regulation that sets maximum limits for such chemicals in bottled water. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that they will go through the report and take the necessary steps to make packaged water safer for consumption.
So the next time you set off on a trip, do remember to pack your water bottle. Carrying an additional kilogram for the sake of your health is kind of justified, isn’t it? In case that’s too troublesome, keep an eye out for the coconut-water seller!
