My Story: “We lived in that house for 66 years after..”

❝He asked for my hand in marriage in 1947 when I was only 17 years old. In those days it used to be difficult to just ‘date’ before marriage and I’d known him for years before because he was my family friend. I agreed to get engaged so young because my mother said that with the partition and riots he would take at least 4 years to get a house — but my fiancé was so excited to have his bride at home that he worked really hard and bought a house within just 6 months! We lived in that house for 66 years after and oh what a beautiful life it’s been…he was a pilot so we’ve travelled the world and made amazing memories together. Even though I became a mother at a really young age — it never stopped us from traveling and our love from growing.

He passed away in January this year, and for the two months that he was unwell and in bed before- he would call out to me every 15 minutes with his arms wide open and say ‘come here, give me a kiss — I love you so much’. And gosh, I miss him and love him too. But you know, he lives on still — we’ve had 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grand children and that’s how our love will live on for a long, long time.❞
