Supported by

Despite 1.2 million deaths in the past decade and close to 400 every single day (equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing every day), the laws are still weak and is favorable to people who kill others on road accident. Many times victims of a road accident have no fault of their own, but they fall prey to the recklessness of others.

In another case of drunk-driving, Janhavi Gadkar, the vice president(Legal) of Reliance Industries Ltd, allegedly rammed her Audi Q3 over a Taxi killing 2 and injuring 4. The incident took place in Mumbai late on Monday night and she was under the influence of alcohol and drove on to the wrong lane of a major freeway. In the taxi, there were 5 people out of which 2 named Saleem Sabuwala and Mohammad Hussain were killed in this accident.

It is being reported that she tried to flee the crime scene and in that attempt she again hit two bikers, but the local crowd caught her and handed her over to the police. A case has been filed against her for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and for rash driving. The police has been handed videos shot by people of the woman allegedly driving recklessly minutes before the collision.

Road safety in India has been ignored and compromised for a long time. If we don’t act now, India may never be able to stop the epidemic of road accident deaths and injuries.
The Prime Minister of India can order a thorough review of the Road Safety Bill and ensure a strong Road Safety Bill. Visit www.roadsafetyatrisk.in and forward the letter to our honorable PM
