Our Parliamentarians appear to have hit on an issue of critical importance: their own paychecks. Apparently the current salary of 50 k per month is seen as being too little with today’s inflated expenses. Funnily enough this amount most likely does not go towards paying the rent since accommodation is free for the esteemed parliamentarians. Neither should they incur travel expenses as they are provided an allowance for the same.
With additional perks that will cover telephone bills, electricity charges and water, the only thing the MPs would have to shell out for is food and clothing. We’d like to the ask the MPs in that regard : “”How much can you eat anyway ?”
Here is the case:
A Parliamentary panel, headed by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, has proposed a series of recommendations to the benefits pacakge of current and former members of Parliament. The joint committee, which has submitted its recommendations to the government, has also proposed an automatic pay revision mechanism for parliamentarians like that of pay commission for government employees.
The recommendations include a 100% salary hike for all MPs and a 77% hike in the pension of former MPs. In addition, it includes a substantial increase in daily allowances and travel fares.
Here are the salient features of what our MPs want as opposed the benefits they already have.
