There were no railway stations in the villages of Sundarpur and Brah Khurd. To make matters worse, the villages did not even have good road connectivity. This affected the villagers a lot as they faced a lot of difficulties while commuting to the district headquarters which was only 12 km away but took hours to reach due to poor roads.

The villagers requested the administration to build a railway station along the Jind-Panipat rail route which passed through these villages. However, the railways always told them that they did not have enough funds for the same. Frustrated and left with no other choice, the residents of these two villages decided to pool in Rs 25 lakhs and built a station and platform themselves!

Seeing that the station was ready, the railway department agreed to halt the train. The villagers’ hard work and relentless pursuit of better connectivity had won.
