We are all aware that even the AC compartments of Indian railways are not immune from crimes. It is often a hassle for the passengers to halt their journey to register their complaints at the nearest Government Railway Police (GRP) station. This invariably gives enough room to the culprits to escape the spot of heinous crime.
In a commendable effort to enable passengers to file their complaints while travelling anywhere in the country, the Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Partibhai Chaudhary launched the All Indian Railway Helpline number, 1512.
Covering 27 states and all Union Territories, the helpline is the brainchild of the Delhi Police in collaboration with Department of Telecom.
Control rooms have been set up in states with geo-sensing features which receive a call made by a railway passenger from a train or a railway station and relay it to the nearest railway station, or police teams on-board the trains for immediate action on complaints.
So we now have the helpline number at our fingertips and can register complaints on the go, saving precious otherwise wasted on breaking the journey, and allowing the quick action to the nab the culprits. This will make our journeys smoother and safer.
