My Story: I Decided To Open This Canteen In Kheeri Collectorate With The Name ‘Betiyan’

There is a hero somewhere in everyone or better said that real heroes are found in gaav ki galiyan. “Betiyan” the tea stall opened by me this time from my salary is a Salam to this couple . Friends meet this couple from district Lakhimpurkheeri. They may appear to be very normal to you and so they appeared to me when they came to my office to meet me in Janta Darshan.

The lady sweeps the floor ,cleans utensils and the man, though a talented person,is very  poor. What they told me made me speechless.
District Kheeri is not very friendly and nice to the girl child. Many are aborted, thrown and abandoned. With a little research we can make out that the richer the family, the more they love the son and nervous to have a girl child.

This couple adopted four baby girls thrown on the road – in addition, all four are physically challenged. I was shocked and amazed by the courage displayed by the couple. Do I have the courage to adopt a physically challenged girl even after becoming an IAS officer, that too in a society where not many pay heed to fact that you adopted a girl child.

I went to their house just to find the truth and was greeted by their four daughters. There  was no dearth of love in that small house . I asked for a cup of tea and was given lemon tea as there wasn’t any milk . I came back later and gave a few solar lamps to that family .

Still the message was not conveyed. I decided to open this canteen in Kheeri collectorate with the name Betiyan. The message is to the district, to the individuals, to all of us … that this mother is not any less loving to her adopted physical challenged girl child than my mother is to me. The lesson for me is that there are so many unknown heroes in life and we are not so great as compared to them.

This canteen is just a salaam from the DM of Kheeri to the courage, values and affection towards the girl child shown by them. The district will also be known for people like them and this small tea stall in my collectorate will loudly give the message to each and every passer by.

May almighty give them their share of happiness, luck and blessings.
