The perverted mind destroys the life of not only the victim but even the family. At a time when we come across several cases where the family disowns the girl, the case of Jharkhand stands disparate.
A father, who can’t even afford a bicycle, walks to a health centre holding his daughter in his arms tightly almost every day to treat her wounds inflicted by a man who brutally raped her two months ago.
The reprehensible mind was a local driver who lured the child with chocolate before raping her by a riverside which ruptured her intestine. The child who was bleeding profusely somehow managed to crawl to her home and narrated the trauma to her parents.
Even though she was admitted to a local hospital, her condition worsened and from there she was rushed to a hospital in Jamshedpur. The doctors’ attempt to stop bleeding proved futile and she was again referred to a hospital in Ranchi. The girl had to undergo colectomy and now uses a colectomy bag. Despite being discharged from the hospital, her wounds have to be dressed regularly at home.
“So what if I do not have a cycle or a motorbike? She is my baby, I cannot dump her. I want her to recover at the earliest and for that I have to take her to the doctor every day,” said the poor labourer to Hindustan Times, as he left his home in Hatiapata village, around 200 km east of capital Ranchi, with the suffering child.
The father walks 4Km on a daily basis with his child as the Maoist-hit area has no public transport.
“I am unable to go for work as this is a priority. We have exhausted whatever in the name of savings we had. Rather we are deep in debt now,” said the poor labourer. “God knows how many more days we will have to suffer like this. I wish a doctor could come to my home and dress the wounds of my daughter but that’s a dream for us.” The young girl identified the man accused of raping her after police nabbed him a few days later while trying to rape another minor.
“I am aware of the minor’s rape and health condition. Let me check what best I can do for her speedy recovery,” Ghatsila sub-divisional officer B P Singh said.
