[Watch] Reshma Explains How It Is Easier to Destroy a Face Than To Remove Dark Spots

“I never knew I could scream like that. The pain was unbearable. I was too shocked to know what was happening. Later, I saw burns, I saw my face. Scarred. Damaged. A stranger’s face. Acid attacks happen to others right? I never imagined that something like this could happen to me. Acid was thrown on me and I live with what it has done to me, every day.”

-Reshma, an acid attack survivor.

This is just not the story of a single victim; it is the story of every single victim.

The kind of pain experienced as a result of an acid attack is unimaginable. Victims face traumatizing after-effects including, but not limited to, peeled skin, loss of eyesight and hearing, exposed bone and cartilage, fatal infections, loss of sensation, amputations, skin replacements and grafts and most of all, excruciating pain which lasts for years at an end.

Our Primary demand is to make the availability of acid to common man almost impossible, which includes following laws which needs to be strictly followed:

  • requirement of collecting identification of documents from and maintaining a record of those purchasing acid;
  • sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) to check stocks of acid maintained by different sellers
  • fine of up to INR 50,000 for not following the rules
  • educational institutions, laboratories and other institutions required to use acid are required to report the same to the SDM and a person at such institutions is to be assigned the responsibility of monitoring the storage and use of acid
