India’s grim situation in the world of unemployment is an issue that needs to be pondered upon.
After a gap of 10 years vacancy for 368 posts of peons at the Uttar Pradesh’s secretariat in Lucknow were made open after which as many as 23 lakh applications were submitted. Over two lakh applicants are at least graduate with BTech, BSc, MSc and MCom degrees and 255 candidates have PhD degree. The selection will be done on the basis of an interview.
Seeing such a huge surge in the number of applications, the government is consulting experts. If all the applicants have to be interviewed then the process make take a minimum of four years. All that the government wants from the applicants of peon is to have an education till class 5 and to know bicycle riding. Bicycle riding is not mandatory for girls and handicapped.
As per Dainik Bhaskar, secretariat secretary Prabhat Mittal has said that the process of filling up the forms were done online. He further added that on seeing the number of applicants, officials were left startled. On scrutiny it was found that only 53,000 were class 5 pass.
“It is possible that even after getting the job, these highly educated candidates might feel frustrated and other officials might hesitate in giving them orders,” said Ambika Chaudhari, the UP backward classes welfare minister.
As per Times Of India , Alok, one of the applicant who holds PhD says that it is better to work as a peon and not roaming around for a job.
The government has to really work to plummet the rising unemployment as the larger population of India are youth and one can’t ignore their urgent need.
