Recently 1965 Indo-Pak war was in news where both the countries claim that they won and have even celebrated victory days. However, the details are vast and cannot be included in a single article. But has India forgot her brave son, Abdul Hamid, in the victory celebration. Well the list of injustice and the daily woe which the families of martyrs go through is too long.

Before we get into specifics of the case, let’s know something about the great man in brief and what happened on 10 September 1965. On 10 September, 1965 Pakistan forces launched an attack on an Indian post in the Khem Karan Sector with a regiment of Patton tanks. The position that was attacked by Pakistan was held by 4 Grenadiers. The attack was preceded by heavy artillery bombardment to soften the target and to draw Indian response. Hamid saw a group of Patton tanks heading towards his battalion defences. He moved out to the flak with his gun mounted on a jeep and he blew three Patton tanks one after another. He fired continuously knocking out three Patton one after another but was killed by tank fire from the fourth before he could engage it.
The man who did so much and the soldiers whom we promise that we would look after their family, their souls must be feeling betrayed as we failed them.

On the 50th occasion of his death anniversary, several known personalities attended the function while the martyr’s daughter Najbun Nisha was requesting the authorities to clear the dues of her husband, Sheikh Allaudin who was retired from District Rural Development Authority from a clerical post. On Wednesday, she kept her worrisome condition before the Panchayat member Brij Bhushan and said that her family has now come to the situation of starvation as reported by Gazipur Live

Nisha has taken several  rounds of bureaucratic office including collector. Nisha further said that her husband got retired in February 2014 and had an appreciable past. But Sheikh’s leave allowances, gratuity, sixth pay commissions arrears have not yet been settled. When she got tired of requesting, her mother Rasoolan Bibi wrote a heart touching mail to the Chief-Minister to which the respective departments were asked to reply. Nisha, further alluded that this condition might be there because of her inability to pay bribe.

She said that due to the non-payment of several dues by the government, she can’t even cook the food. Meanwhile Dubey has said that he would send the details of the matter to the CM, Chief-Secretary, Commissioner and would give a stipulated time of 10 days to resolve the issues failing which he would sit on ‘Satyagraha’ in front of collector’s house.

The only question arises is that for who long the families of martyr’s should go pillar to post in order to get dues they richly deserve and how long will the government take despite the wake up call? We came across the case of Capt Anuj Nayyar who was martyred in Kargil 99 and his father ran took several rounds of government offices before they got the due.
