Ati sarvatra varjayat is a famous saying from the Bhagavad Gita which states excess is always bad. Something which is good for us may not be the same for other beings. We humans are abusing natural resources and have already broken the law of balance on which Nature functions.

In the year 2011, a group of students in Washington realised and discussed the divestment demand to all fossils fuels. Soon this campaign spread to almost 50 campuses. Instead of relying on the government to pass laws and sign a global deal this movement engaged public, students, pension funds, cities and states. They were encouraging everyone to divest from the fossil and invest in climate solutions.

This gave birth to Divest-Invest philanthropy which has forced many including the government, corporate houses, health-based groups, students etc to think critically about the climate change. Divestment here is linked to the threat posed by the excessive use of fossil fuels.

Scientists agree that if global warming is to be kept below the danger limit of 2C then coal, oil and gas reserves must remain in the ground. Over 2000 individuals and 400 institutions including countries like Norway and California are committed to pulling their money from fossil fuel companies.
We are unknowingly investing into the fossil fuel industry through our insurance and health policies. To secure a safe climate, we should move towards the renewable energy resources.

We all agree that fossil fuels generate CO2, which is one of the many reasons of global warming. So the resources that can replace fossil fuels have to be better and should not cause pollution or climate change. The answer lies around us i.e. sunlight, wind, plants and water are available everywhere and unlike fossils these resources create less CO2, hence does not add to the global warming.
