There is a raging concern for the clean India, and the mascot of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, PM Modi is all set to gift two electric buses for MP’s that will help them play their part in preventing pollution in the national capital.

Nitin Gadkari, Road Transport Minister, said that if everything would go as per plan the buses would be donated to Lok Sabha speaker, Sumitra Mahajan on December 21.

The lithium-ion-powered buses run on the same battery that is used to propel satellites made by ISRO.

ISRO scientists, in collaboration with the ministry have developed the batteries costing Rs 5 lakh. Gadkari further added that they planned to run 15 such buses as a pilot project. The project is in line with Make in India initiative and the vehicles would be commercialised and the patents have been registered.

Gadkari further said that the plan to convert 1.5 lakh buses in the country to electric which at present run on diesel is underway.

The farmers will also be encouraged to diversify towards production of bio-fuel from sugar and other products.
