• When Lokayukta officials raided a clerk’s house(s) in Madhya Pradesh, they were in a for a shock.
• Rs 7 lakh worth of cash, 5 iPhones and 20 foreign watches are just some of the things.

Lokayukta officials recovered Rs 7 lakh in cash and assets worth over Rs 60 lakh from the residence of Narendra Gangwal, an Assistant Grade II clerk in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district.

The raid was conducted after a tip-off and this was recovered: five iPhones, jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh, paperwork for land worth Rs 55 lakh, 20 imported watches and even documents for a bank locker, apart from cash. The ‘loot’ was stowed under a bed, said Lokayukta official Basant Shrivastava.

Investigations also revealed that Gangwal had taken a loan from multiple banks amounting to Rs 10 lakh and that the bank locker housed two kilos of silver and 250 grams of gold jewelry.

These assets, found in possession of Gangwal, are highly disproportionate to his official source of income, said officials. Apart from the materials recovered from his home, he also owns a car.

His residence at Mandsaur district was also raided simultaneously by Lokayukta sleuths. Ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh have been recovered from his Mandaur residence, along with papers for a bank locker. The locker will be investigated later.

Reportedly, Gangwal was planning to leave to Goa for a vacation when the raids happened. Shrivstatava added that the enquiry into the matter would continue.
