Shiv Singh, 48, a resident of Jaipur, has taken determination and perseverance to a whole new level. Though his parents were labourers, and did not earn much, they ensured education for their son, enabling him to graduate from the Government College, Gangapur.

Due to physical reasons, he was unable to find employment as a labourer, and had to resort to begging for money to make ends meet. Set on making it big in life, he did not let the humiliation he faced put him down. He used the money to buy law books and got himself enrolled in the Rajasthan University.

In order to sustain himself, he now roams the streets all morning, trying to collect money. At 3 in the afternoon, he changes direction, collects his books, and walks to college. A diligent and sincere student, he has not missed a single day of classes. Even on holidays, or on days when classes are cancelled, he sits in the library and studies.

His goal is to finish studying law, and get a respectable job at a court. Fixed on that aim, he goes slowly and steadily, even with all odds stacked against him. Shiv Singh is an inspiration to many of us, who often forget the privileges we have and give up too soon. He proves that to a determined mind, no obstacle is big enough to block the path to success.
