Traditionally, in all the cultures irrespective of country we live in, for women hair is as dear as any other organ. At the same time, we as the society are not very comfortable with bald women which further stigmatise a bald woman. It takes a lot of courage and conviction to get rid of your own hair. Deekshitha Ramesh decided to donate her hair and we cannot be prouder of her. She quit her lucrative software job for social work and she volunteers with various NGOs and tries to contribute society in whatever way possible. She is inspiring her friends who are also donating their hair.
“My hair – Yes I was obsessed too and every girl will be, because they say hair makes women beautiful, Does it ?? Yes. But for a woman battling cancer, her bald head could be a constant reminder of her cancer!!
When I was planning on getting bald, people asked me (and still ask) so many questions like what about your marriage? When am I getting married? Couldn’t I do something else for this cause than donating hair? Do my parents allow this? What does society speak ?Here are the answers yes I can do many more things for them, but still I chose to go bald. Because I wanted to step into their shoes first to see how it feels like to be one among them. Thinking about this made me realize how difficult it is to lose something so attached to you.
I did it for the ladies who undergo chemo and fight bravely against it each and every second. I did it because I want you to realize there are women who undergo depression facing her hair loss every day.
I did it for the women who lost their lives to Cancer.
I did it because I want to break typical stereotypes.
I did it because I want you to know marriage has no connection with hair.
I did it because I want you to know hair is not the one which makes a woman beautiful.
I did it to face my deepest fear and let go attachments.
I did it because Bald is beautiful.
I did it because Bald is Bold.
This long hair of mine will go as a donation to www.copewithcancer.orgorganization which would donate a free wig to one of the brave heart women.I am so glad to see my parents, coolest bro and my dearest friends supporting me. Yes, I did it for reasons. Support a cause and be a change maker!!”
Inspired by her Vruddhi Jakati, her friend too donated her hair
The Logical Indian community appreciates them for donating their hair. And we hope more people get inspired by her and donate their hair for cancer patients.
