My Story: He Said, “Saahab Insaan Apni Aulaad Ke Saamne Jhuk Jaata Hai Bas”

As they say, age is just a number. This man proved it.

On my way back home that evening, I figured out my car AC stopped functioning. You know how Delhi weather is in summer. I suddenly decided to take my car to service station to get it fixed. Before that, I stopped at an ATM to withdraw some money. As it was very humid, I was sweating badly. I got in to withdraw money and as soon as I was about to step out, someone stopped me offering his water bottle and saying, “Bauji, thodi der AC me ruk jao, paseena sukhaalo”

I turned back, there was an old man (nearly 65-year-old security guard), sitting on a chair, smiling with shining eyes. He was still looking at me; I could not stop leaving ATM at that moment. I was happy with his gesture, I stood there in front of AC for few seconds and I asked him, Dada how many hours a day you work as this ATM security guard, 12? He said, nahi bauji. These words made me happy as I started wondering that he must be working less than 12 hours for sure, may be 10. Then he suddenly said, saahab meri duty 16 ghante ki hai.

What? Did I hear it right? 16 hours? I asked him, don’t you have kids, he said I have two sons, both are married and are into bad habits. Both are not working. I felt bad for him. Well, we continued talking and got to know that he used to work for BATA Company into operation and was retired some years back. He rides his cycle for a total of 44 kms daily, to and fro his ATM, for 16 hours shift and is paid with a salary of 8,000 per month. Isn’t it commendable?

He further said, “saahab insaan apni aulaad ke saamne jhuk jaata hai bas”. I could not believe his guts. I hugged him and clicked a picture with him. I salute you sir.

Before leaving I took his number. His details are:

Name: Mr. G.P. Tiwari
Number: 9891173794

If you guys can get him a better job, with less working hours and more salary, it will really be helpful.

Let’s help him.
Share as much as you can. It can help him getting a better life.
