Gold and silver prices surged across domestic and international markets on November 4, supported by a weaker US dollar, falling crude oil prices and increased safe-haven demand following the 2026 US midterm elections. International spot gold rose 2.34% to cross $4,023 per ounce, gaining around $102 in a single session, while silver climbed nearly 4% to approach $52 per ounce. US gold futures increased 2.30% to $4,031.10 per ounce, while silver futures rose 3.83% to nearly $52.
The rally followed the Democratic Party’s victory in securing control of both chambers of the US Congress, dealing a significant setback to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Analysts believe the election outcome has added uncertainty to global financial markets, providing further support to precious metals.
Precious Metals Rally
According to market data, international spot gold gained 2.34%, trading above $4,023 per ounce, while silver rose approximately 4% to nearly $52 per ounce over 24 hours. In the US futures market, gold advanced 2.30% to $4,031.10 per ounce, while silver increased 3.83% to around $52 at 07:03 GMT. The rally was also reflected in India’s domestic commodity market.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures rose 2.08% to Rs 1,42,353 per 10 grams, while silver futures climbed 3.55% to Rs 1,86,081 per kilogram. A weaker US dollar made dollar-denominated commodities more attractive to international buyers, while declining crude oil prices and lower US Treasury yields further supported market sentiment. The US Dollar Index fell 0.54% to 101.17 during morning trade, while Brent crude futures declined 0.49% to $103.09 per barrel. These developments collectively strengthened demand for precious metals.
Election Uncertainty Grows
The US midterm election results emerged as another factor influencing investor sentiment. Democrats secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the November 3 elections, ending the Republican Party’s hold over Congress.
The outcome represents a major political setback for President Donald Trump and could make it more challenging for his administration to push forward its legislative and economic agenda. Investors are assessing the possible implications for government spending, taxation and broader economic policies. Market analysts believe the shift in political control has introduced another layer of uncertainty into global financial markets, encouraging investors to turn towards traditional safe-haven assets such as gold.
According to Nirpendra Yadav, Senior Research Analyst at Bonanza Portfolio, the election results contributed to a weaker US dollar and declining Treasury yields, both of which supported gold prices. However, he noted that silver could experience mixed movements, as concerns about industrial demand and economic growth may limit its gains. Analysts believe the political developments could offer near-term support to precious metals, although their longer-term movement will depend on broader economic conditions.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Rising gold and silver prices underline how global political developments can influence everyday financial decisions. In India, where gold holds considerable cultural and economic importance, sharp price increases can affect household budgets and jewellery purchases. While investors may view precious metals as relatively safer assets during uncertain times, informed decisions and responsible financial planning remain essential. How can households navigate changing market conditions without allowing uncertainty to affect their financial security?
