American Singer Mary Millben Alleges US Donors Are Funding CJP, Backs Modi Government

American singer Mary Millben has alleged that US-based donors opposed to PM Modi are funding the CJP, prompting sharp denials from the outfit amidst ongoing detentions of its leaders.

Prominent African-American singer and cultural ambassador Mary Millben has publicly accused United States-based donors opposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi of covertly financing the satirical political outfit Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijeet Dipke.

Defending the Indian Prime Minister’s leadership, Millben called upon Indian youths to “peacefully protest” what she termed the outfit’s disruptive agenda. In response, Dipke categorically rejected the claims of illicit foreign funding, stating his overseas education was backed entirely by a university scholarship and student loans, whilst challenging the Union Home Ministry to clarify how illicit overseas capital could enter the country unchecked. This heated exchange follows the detention and subsequent transfer to Tihar Jail of senior CJP leaders over unpermitted demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.

Allegations of Foreign Interference

In an impassioned social media post, Millben asserted that specific American benefactors follow a recurring global pattern of destabilising conservative administrations by bankrolling agitators.

Urging citizens to form a counter-movement, Mary Millben wrote, “Your Prime Minister, who has served India for 25 years, 12 years as Prime Minister, elected three consecutive terms, is not going to bow to disruptive forces from my country”. The claims surfaced amidst broader scrutiny by ruling party leaders regarding a pledged legal defence fund of ₹1 crore linked to senior advocate Kapil Sibal.

Strongly refuting allegations of financial impropriety, Dipke dismissed the overseas funding narrative as baseless political posturing, asking why the authorities had produced no regulatory paper trail under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) if such transactions had truly taken place.

Escalating Tensions

The controversy unfolds against a backdrop of escalating confrontation between youth-led political satirists and state law enforcement.

Just hours before Mary Millben’s remarks, Delhi Police detained CJP figures—including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka—sending them to judicial custody in Tihar Jail after they breached barricades at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to hoist the national tricolour and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

While opposition figures, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, strongly condemned the arrests, arguing that public spaces belong to citizens for peaceful redressal, government representatives maintained that unlawful assemblies, provocative online mobilisations, and unverified foreign linkages pose tangible threats to civil order.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

In a vibrant democracy of over 1.4 billion people, public discourse must remain rooted in transparency, accountability, and mutual respect rather than polarising rhetoric or unsubstantiated vilification.

Legitimate concerns over institutional integrity and financial compliance require rigorous, impartial investigation by lawful bodies, not hyper-partisan warfare fought via international social media megaphones. When dissent is summarily painted as foreign-funded subversion, or when legal accountability is framed as outright oppression, genuine democratic dialogue suffers.

India’s greatest strength lies in fostering peaceful coexistence, where our youth can actively participate in nation-building without intimidation and where state institutions remain genuinely accessible and responsive to every citizen.
