A trading platform can make a big difference in how investors manage their market investments. Kotak Neo brings trading, investing and market-related tools together on one platform.
Investors can use it for stocks, Futures & Options (F&O), mutual funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and other products. It comes with tools for chart analysis and stock screening. Investors can also set price alerts, create basket orders, and check option chains while tracking the market.
The platform has different pricing plans as well, along with features such as the Margin Trading Facility (MTF). Investors can also open a demat account online through Kotak Neo. This review looks at Kotak Neo’s features, brokerage, MTF costs, and the kind of investor it may suit.
Kotak Neo Trading Features
Kotak Neo has quite a few tools beyond the basic buy-and-sell functions. The more advanced ones come into play when trading options, building multiple-position strategies, or using MTF. A few of the features that stand out are:
- TradingView charts: Traders get TradingView within Kotak Neo, along with its charting tools and indicators for tracking price movements.
- Trade from Charts: A stock can be analysed and traded from the same chart. Buy and sell orders can be placed without switching to another screen.
- Options Chain: Open interest, volume and other option data are available on the live options chain. Orders can be placed from there as well.
- Payoff Analyser: Options traders can use the tool to check a strategy under different stock prices, volatility levels, and time periods.
- Basket orders: With this feature, traders can place a bulk order by adding multiple stocks into one basket.
- Strategy Bot: Traders set the entry and exit points first. The Strategy Bot then takes care of placing the orders automatically.
- Price Alert: The market keeps fluctuating. If traders do not keep a constant watch, certain price levels may be missed. The price alert feature helps here by sending alerts to traders as and when the pre-set price or volume is reached.
- Trade API: Orders are executed in under 50 milliseconds through the API, so traders use it for high-speed trading.
- StockCase: Investors will find ready-made stock baskets under StockCase, covering different themes. Those who prefer to make their own selection can create a basket with the stocks they want.
- Margin Trading Facility: The MTF facility covers 1,300+ stocks on Kotak Neo. The maximum leverage available is 4x, so the investor contributes a part of the trade value, and the remaining amount is funded through MTF.
Kotak Neo Brokerage And Other Charges
Kotak Neo has four main plans: Trade Free Plan, Trade Free Pro, Trade Free Youth, and Trade Free Max. The first 30 days come with ₹0 brokerage on equity delivery, intraday and F&O trades, subject to the applicable plan terms.
Trade Free Plan does not have an account opening or subscription fee. Once the first 30 days are over, intraday brokerage is charged at ₹10 or 0.05% per executed order, whichever is lower. Delivery trades are charged at 0.20%. Carry-forward and intraday F&O, currency and commodity trades cost ₹10 per order.
Trade Free Pro comes at ₹249 + GST a month. Equity delivery is charged at 0.10%, while intraday brokerage is ₹10 or 0.05%, whichever is lower. F&O, currency and commodity trades cost ₹10 per executed order. The plan also has a flat 9.69% p.a. MTF interest rate.
For investors below 30, there is Trade Free Youth. The account opening fee is ₹99, while equity delivery has zero brokerage. Intraday brokerage is charged at ₹10 or 0.05%, whichever is lower, and F&O, currency and commodity trades cost ₹10 per order.
Trade Free Max runs for one year and costs ₹2,499 + GST. Intraday trades have zero brokerage under the plan. Delivery is charged at 0.25% or ₹20, whichever is higher, while carry-forward F&O, currency and commodity trades cost ₹20 per executed order.
Other charges to keep in mind
Brokerage is only one part of the overall cost. Depository Participant (DP) charges apply when securities are sold from the demat account. For example, under Trade Free Max, the DP charge is 0.04% of the value of securities, subject to a minimum of ₹20, on the sell side of delivery and Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow (BTST) trades.
The brokerage amount is not the only cost involved in a trade. Securities Transaction Tax (STT), exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover charges, GST, and stamp duty may all apply based on the transaction. Kotak Neo’s brokerage calculator includes these charges in the overall cost calculation.
There is also demat AMC (Annual Maintenance Charges). This cost varies based on the account type and holdings. For BSDA (Basic Services Demat Account) accounts, no AMC applies when holdings are up to ₹4,00,000. For holdings between ₹4,00,001 and ₹10 lakh, a nominal AMC of up to ₹100 a year plus GST applies.

- Delivery, intraday and F&O trades have different brokerage rates across the plans.
- MTF interest is an additional cost and is not included in the regular brokerage.
