A massive fire broke out at R H International factory near Rampur Doraha on Got Road in Moradabad’s Katghar police station area, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, September 14, with the blaze reportedly beginning around 11:30 am.
Thick smoke and flames rose high enough to be visible from nearly 2 kilometres away, triggering panic in the surrounding area. Several fire tenders were rushed to the site and firefighters were working to contain the blaze, while police reportedly moved people away from the affected area as dense smoke spread around the factory.
Early reports indicate that the facility handles wood and other home décor-related manufacturing, potentially contributing to the rapid spread of the flames, although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Reports also say workers rushed out after smoke was noticed inside the premises.
At the time of publication, there was no independently confirmed information on deaths or injuries, nor a confirmed estimate of property damage. Local reports said the number of workers inside the affected section was not immediately known.
The latest available reports from media and Lalluram said firefighting efforts were continuing, with authorities focused first on bringing the blaze under control and preventing further risk to people nearby. The Uttar Pradesh Police website confirms that Got and Zero Point fall within the Katghar police station’s jurisdiction.
Flames Trigger Panic
The fire at R H International quickly escalated into a major emergency, with visuals from the area showing flames engulfing a significant portion of the factory and a large plume of smoke rising above the premises. Media reported that the flames could be seen from around 2 kilometres away, while Lalluram said the smoke cloud was visible from a similar distance.
The intensity of the blaze prompted concern among residents and people working in nearby establishments. According to reports, several fire vehicles reached the location after the emergency was reported, and firefighters began attacking the flames from different points.
Live Hindustan, cited in earlier reports, said four fire vehicles initially reached the site, although the intensity of the blaze required continued firefighting efforts. Lalluram reported that the smoke caused discomfort and breathing difficulties for some people in the surrounding area, following which police took precautionary measures and cleared people from the immediate vicinity.
The safety of workers remained a central concern as smoke spread through the facility. Reports indicate that employees rushed outside after noticing the fire, but the exact number of workers present in the affected section has not yet been officially established.
Importantly, no named statement from a senior police or fire-service official confirming casualties, the number of workers evacuated, or the final number of fire tenders was available in the latest reports reviewed for this story. Authorities are expected to provide a clearer assessment once the fire is fully extinguished and the premises are deemed safe to inspect.
Cause, Damage Remain Unclear
The immediate priority remains extinguishing the fire and ensuring that it does not spread to nearby buildings. The cause of the blaze has not yet been established, and it would be premature to attribute it to an electrical fault, machinery failure or any particular material without an official investigation.
Reports describe R H International as a manufacturing and export business associated with home décor products, with operations involving materials including wood and metal. Publicly available pollution-control records also list an R H International unit at Abdullah Industrial Estate, Zero Point, Rampur Road, Moradabad.
The nature of the manufacturing activity provides useful context but does not establish what caused Monday’s fire or which material first caught fire. A proper assessment of the damage will only be possible after firefighters secure the premises.
Authorities will then need to establish whether machinery, raw materials or parts of the building were destroyed, whether neighbouring properties were affected and whether all workers were safely accounted for.
