‘Don’t Make Me a Hero’: Abhijeet Dipke Urges Supporters After Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation

Abhijeet Dipke Rejects Hero Worship After Dharmendra Pradhan's Resignation, Says Student Movement Must Continue Together

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday urged supporters not to turn him into a hero after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid weeks of protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and demands for education reforms. Addressing supporters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Dipke said the movement was driven by collective public action rather than any individual leader, warning against personality-driven politics.

While many protesters celebrated the resignation as a significant milestone, Dipke maintained that the agitation would continue until the group’s remaining demands are addressed. Pradhan, meanwhile, said he had stepped down in the larger interest of students and to ensure the situation was not exploited by “anti-national forces.”

Dipke calls for focus on collective movement

Speaking to supporters after the resignation, Dipke said, “I want to say something very important. Don’t make me a hero because Dharmendra Pradhan resigned today. Don’t make this mistake. Don’t make me a hero because of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The country has been ruined because of making one person a hero.” He described the resignation as only the “first wicket” and thanked students and volunteers who had participated in the demonstrations, saying the campaign should remain centred on examination transparency and accountability rather than individual personalities.

CJP leaders also reiterated that their demands include reforms in the examination system, compensation for families of students allegedly affected by the examination crisis, and action over the alleged police excesses during recent protests.

Resignation follows sustained protests

Pradhan announced his resignation on Saturday, stating that he had accepted moral responsibility for the examination controversy from the outset. In his resignation message, he said he was stepping down to safeguard students’ interests and prevent the ongoing situation from being misused, adding that the Centre had already ordered a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities, cancelled the affected examination, and announced a re-examination along with plans to shift future tests to a computer-based format. His resignation came after weeks of protests led by CJP, student groups and activist Sonam Wangchuk, with demonstrators demanding greater transparency and accountability in India’s examination system.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Public movements often draw strength from collective participation rather than individual personalities. Dipke’s appeal against hero worship serves as a reminder that lasting institutional reforms require sustained civic engagement, transparent governance and democratic accountability.

As conversations around examination integrity continue, it is essential that all stakeholders prioritize dialogue, fairness and trust in public institutions while ensuring that students’ futures remain at the centre of policymaking. Do you think lasting education reforms are more likely when public movements remain focused on systemic change rather than individual leaders?
