Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a 50% concession on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus fares for candidates appearing in the NEET-UG re-test scheduled on June 21, while also directing district administrations to provide temporary accommodation support for students travelling to other districts.
The decision comes amid heightened scrutiny over examination integrity following allegations of paper leaks and aims to ease logistical and financial burdens on nearly 3.5 lakh candidates expected to appear across 59 districts.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to ensure strict compliance with National Testing Agency (NTA) guidelines, maintain close vigilance against misinformation, and safeguard the transparency and sanctity of the examination process.
Support Measures for Thousands of Aspirants
The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting on law and order, examination preparedness, upcoming festivals, and International Yoga Day arrangements. According to officials, candidates will be eligible for the bus fare concession upon presenting their NEET admit cards while travelling on UPSRTC services.
Adityanath further directed district magistrates to arrange temporary accommodation for students who may need to travel outside their home districts and lack suitable lodging options. Stressing the importance of conducting a fair examination, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to implement all NTA-prescribed protocols and maintain strict monitoring of social media platforms to identify and act against rumours, misleading claims, or attempts to spread false information related to the examination. Officials said the measures are intended to reduce stress for candidates while reinforcing confidence in the examination process.
Focus on Examination Integrity and Public Order
The support package comes at a time when competitive examinations across the country have faced intense public scrutiny over alleged irregularities and paper leak concerns. During the meeting, Adityanath emphasised that transparency, accountability and security must remain central to the conduct of the NEET re-test.
Alongside exam preparations, he reviewed arrangements for Muharram and instructed district authorities to engage with community stakeholders to ensure peaceful observance. The Chief Minister stated that Muharram is a period of mourning and remembrance and directed officials to prevent displays of weapons, the introduction of new traditions, excessive use of loud sound systems, and any activities that could disturb public order.
He also instructed authorities to ensure that tazias comply with prescribed safety norms, with structures exceeding 10 to 12 feet not being permitted. Additionally, preparations for International Yoga Day on June 21 were reviewed, with directions issued to organise yoga programmes across all gram panchayats and urban local bodies in the state.
