A 35-year-old Mumbai nurse, identified as Sana, was allegedly strangled to death and buried in a field in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district by her partner, Faisal, after she reportedly pressured him to marry her, according to the police. Sana and Faisal became acquainted while living and working in Mumbai before Faisal returned to his native village in Bijnor. Sana later travelled there, after which she went missing.

Her family filed a missing person’s complaint in Mumbai on June 2, prompting an investigation that led police to Bijnor. Faisal has been arrested, while Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai Police are jointly investigating the case and searching for Sana’s body. The allegations are based on the police investigation, and the case remains under investigation.

How Did Sana And Faisal Know Each Other?

According to the police, Sana worked as a nurse in Mumbai, where she came into contact with Faisal, who was employed at a salon in the city’s Jogeshwari area. Their acquaintance reportedly developed into a relationship, and they remained in touch even after Faisal returned to his native village of Saifpur Khadar in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh.

Investigators believe Sana wanted to marry Faisal and travelled from Mumbai to Bijnor to meet him after he left the city. When she stopped communicating with her family, concern grew, eventually leading to a missing person’s complaint.

What Led To The Alleged Murder?

Police allege that tensions arose after Sana repeatedly asked Faisal to marry her. According to investigators, Faisal was unwilling to do so, leading to frequent disagreements between the two. The police claim that during one such confrontation, Faisal allegedly strangled Sana near Fatehpur Sabhachand village and buried her body in an agricultural field in an attempt to conceal the crime. Officials have stressed that these details are based on the ongoing investigation and the accused’s alleged confession. The allegations will be tested through the judicial process.

Missing Complaint Triggered Multi-State Investigation

The case came to light after Sana’s family reported her missing in Mumbai on June 2 when they were unable to contact her. Mumbai Police began tracing her recent movements, which reportedly revealed that she had travelled to Bijnor around May 29.

The information was shared with Uttar Pradesh Police, who questioned Faisal after inconsistencies reportedly emerged during the investigation. Police said sustained interrogation led to his arrest. Authorities are continuing efforts to recover Sana’s body from the location allegedly identified during questioning.

Police Continue Search And Evidence Collection

Officials said a Mumbai Police team has travelled to Bijnor to assist local investigators. Uttar Pradesh Police are continuing search operations and other investigative procedures as they attempt to recover Sana’s body, which they say will be crucial to the investigation.

Police have registered a criminal case against Faisal and said further findings may emerge as the investigation progresses. Authorities have appealed to anyone with relevant information to cooperate with investigators.

Case Renews Debate On Relationship Violence

The incident has once again drawn attention to violence within intimate relationships and the risks faced by women when personal disputes escalate. Experts have long emphasised the importance of recognising signs of coercive or controlling behaviour, encouraging open communication and ensuring timely access to support for those in vulnerable situations.

The case also highlights the importance of prompt missing-person investigations and coordination between police forces across states. Investigators believe cooperation between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh Police played a key role in tracing Sana’s movements.

At the same time, legal experts caution against drawing conclusions solely from police claims until the evidence is examined in court. Under Indian law, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Every alleged case of violence against a woman is a reminder that relationships should be rooted in mutual respect, consent and honest communication. While the allegations in this case are deeply disturbing, it is equally important to allow the legal process to establish the truth based on evidence. Society must also strengthen support systems, promote healthy conflict resolution and encourage people to seek help before personal disputes turn tragic.

Preventing such violence requires collective responsibility from families and communities to institutions and law enforcement while ensuring justice is fair, transparent and compassionate. What more can society do to prevent relationship disputes from escalating into fatal violence while ensuring justice for victims and fairness for the accused?
