Gurgaon Police have arrested four Bangladeshi nationals accused of carrying out a house robbery in Sector 23 and holding a family of three, including an 11-year-old girl, hostage while stealing valuables worth around ₹9 lakh.

The accused identified as Hilal, Mamo Khan, Mohammad Khairul Arman and Mohammad Maman were arrested on June 11 following a police operation near the Bajghera underpass on Dwarka Road.

According to police, the men broke into the victim’s home on the night of June 4 by forcing open an iron grille on a rear window, threatened the family, and escaped with gold and diamond jewellery, cash, and other valuables.

Investigators claim the accused had conducted prior surveillance of the house and were allegedly planning to flee to Bangladesh after the crime. During the arrest operation, the suspects reportedly attempted to escape and sustained injuries before being taken into custody.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and efforts are underway to recover the stolen property and examine possible links to other crimes across Delhi-NCR.

Police Trace Alleged Robbers

The arrests came after a week-long investigation launched on the basis of a complaint filed at Palam Vihar police station by the homeowner. According to the First Information Report (FIR), four unidentified men entered the residence late on June 4 after breaking through a rear window grille.

Once inside, they allegedly held the family captive and threatened them with death if they raised an alarm. The robbers then searched the house and fled with jewellery, cash and valuables estimated to be worth approximately ₹9 lakh.

Sharing details of the operation, ACP (Crime) Naveen Sharma said police traced the suspects to the Bajghera underpass area on Dwarka Road. “When we tried to arrest them, they attempted to flee,” Sharma said.

According to police, Mohammad Khairul Arman suffered injuries to both legs during the operation, while Mohammad Maman and Hilal sustained injuries to one leg each. Mamo Khan reportedly suffered an injury to his arm. All four were admitted to hospital before being formally taken into custody.

Police have also claimed that the suspects conducted reconnaissance before targeting the residence. “Preliminary investigation has found that the accused carried out surveillance before targeting the house. It is part of their regular modus operandi,” Sharma added.

Investigators believe the group observed the family’s routine and vulnerabilities before executing the robbery, indicating a level of planning rather than a spontaneous crime. Authorities are now examining whether the accused may have been involved in similar offences in Gurgaon, Delhi or neighbouring states.

Criminal Records And Escape Plan

The investigation has also drawn attention to the criminal backgrounds of the accused. According to police records, Hilal has 12 cases registered against him in Delhi involving allegations of theft, robbery, dacoity and violations under the Arms Act.

Mohammad Khairul Arman reportedly faces eight cases across Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including allegations related to theft, robbery, dacoity, offences under the Gangster Act and murder. Mohammad Maman has been booked in three cases linked to theft, robbery and dacoity in Gurgaon and Delhi, while Mamo Khan has one theft case registered against him in Delhi.

Police said all four accused are Bangladeshi nationals currently residing in Wazirabad, Delhi. Investigators are probing their local network, movements and potential involvement in organised criminal activity. One of the most significant claims made by investigators is that the accused were allegedly preparing to leave India and travel to Bangladesh after carrying out the robbery.

Authorities believe the planned departure may have been an attempt to evade arrest and complicate the investigation. Their arrest before they could allegedly leave the country is being viewed as a major breakthrough by law enforcement officials.

The case has also reignited discussions around organised property crimes in rapidly expanding urban centres such as Gurgaon. Police and security experts have repeatedly warned residents about criminal groups that conduct surveillance before targeting homes believed to contain valuable assets.

Incidents of residential burglaries involving intimidation or confinement of occupants have heightened concerns about household security, particularly in areas witnessing rapid urban growth and population movement. While the arrests have brought some relief to the affected family, authorities continue to investigate whether the group may be connected to a wider network of similar crimes.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This incident highlights the profound psychological impact that violent property crimes can have on families, particularly when children are involved. Beyond the financial loss, being threatened and held hostage inside one’s own home can leave lasting emotional scars.

At the same time, it is important that criminal investigations proceed through due process, with evidence guiding accountability and ensuring justice for both victims and accused persons. Public conversations around crime must remain focused on individual responsibility and lawful conduct rather than fuelling prejudice against entire communities, nationalities or migrant populations.
